waiting for robot

dear robot
i've been labour-stalking your mama. its hard to resist texting her every day (every hour, every minute) asking about you.
but really, there is no rush to get here. i'm glad you're taking your time in there. your mama's been more beautiful than i've ever seen her with you in her belly. i have no doubt that whatever growing you are doing these weeks while we wait will make you even wiser, more handsome and more ready to be here.
but i hope you have a sense of what the spark that is your spirit is coming towards. you've got a mama and dad that are gonna love you to the moon and back. you've also got a really beautiful collection of people on both your mama and dad's side that are your family. i can tell you this for sure sweet robot, you're going to love it here.
i'm super excited that there really is a chance that i'm going to be able to meet you day one of your life, even though i live an 8 hour train ride away. i get to meet a lot of babies on the first day of their lives and its always an honour. i really don't want to miss yours. cause you know, you and i, we're gonna be best friends for life buddy. i just know it.

p.s. oh and if you're wondering why i'm calling you robot? ask your dad. he's had this joke going for years now that he thinks robot is a great name for his kid. thankfully, they've also got some really lovely for-real names up their sleeves!

Robot is here and he is such a blessed little boy to have his Auntie V. i love this letter. i especially love this "i really don't want to miss yours. cause you know, you and i, we're gonna be best friends for life buddy. i just know it.". Congratulations Auntie! This letter is so sweet, I hope you will save it and give it to him when he is much older.
When I was pregnant with my son whenever his aunts, uncles, grandparents visited we would have them record a message for him.
Now that some of those relatives are no longer with us those moments are even more precious.
I know that you are going to make a wonderful auntie, robot is a very lucky boy.
